PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
50 years! 50 years! Happy Anniversary, NETCA! We have
entered a special era, an era which spans so many historical events.
Fortune 500 companies have come and gone and world leaders have come
and gone. Yet these little toy trains seem to remain center stage, so
magical and wonderful, full of enchantment. This is my first president's message; there is so much to address. First, a great Thank You! to Bob Obara for his successful terms as division president. The election of Ron Coyne as vice-president is a welcome addition. The NETCA members are the strength of our organization and we are fortunate to have a broad and experienced group. Our past accomplishments, from the 1998 National convention to our local meets, require all members' input and expertise. We are in need of volunteers of all sorts to make OUR Vermont convention in June a success. If you plan to attend I ask that you volunteer a few hours of your valuable time – just one or two hours will help this event be the success we know it will be. There will be some changes at our March 9th meet. When members receive their badges, they may enter the trading area, whether or not it is 9:00. This was an old practice the directors believe needs to be reinstated. We ask anyone with an operating layout or a display of old or unique trains to set up at the March 9th meet – the more trains we see the more we broaden our knowledge. See you at the meet, Steve VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are urgently needed for the 2008 national convention to be
held in Burlington, Vermont. In particular, we need help
with the Kids Club layout. Please call Fred Cancilliere at
401-683-0645 to sign up.NETCA COMMEMORATIVE CAR
As announced in the November newsletter, the 2008 division car will be
a two-car set of Oilzum tankers. For a picture of the
prototype, click on the Oilzum button at HYPERLINK
"http://www.netca.org" www.netca.org For
NETCA’s 50th anniversary, we are offering 350 sets of two tankers
in O gauge and 150 sets of two in S. Lionel will make the O
gauge cars, which will be painted by Weaver; cost is $105, which
includes shipping! The S gauge cars will be made and
decorated by Lionel; the set will cost $100, which includes shipping.NETCA members may buy up to four sets; other TCA members may buy one set in either O or S gauge. NETCA members should mail their orders as soon as possible. Other TCA members must have their orders postmarked after March 31st; those orders will be processed in the order received. Make checks payable to NETCA and mail to: Ted Brahm, 16 Birch Bluff Road, Montgomery, MA 01085. And for you patient buyers of the S gauge Cape Cod Potato Chip car, good news: the cars are in the USA and are on their way to Weaver to be painted. Estimated shipment to buyers is the end of February. Thank you very much for your support for the division car program. Ted & Al KIDS CLUB OPERATING LAYOUT
Once again the Kids Club will be running the new Harry Potter Hogwarts
Express at the March 9th meet. We need kid volunteers to
set up and operate the train. At least two kids are needed
from 9:00 to 10:30, while two more will be needed from 10:30 to
12:00. Please e-mail me before the meet to volunteer:

Stuart Covington is having an open house to see his American Flyer/S Helper/American Models train layout Sunday March 16th noon to 3pm. If you like, bring an engine you would like to run. We are running S scale with vintage AF transformers. We are located right smack in the middle of Plasticville, USA also known as Lunenburg, Ma. Call or e-mail to let me know if you would like to come and I will give you the address. 978-582-3335 HYPERLINK "mailto:stucov@comcast.net" stucov@comcast.net Here is a link to photos of the train layout too: HYPERLINK "http://picasaweb.google.com/stuartcovington/Plasticville" http://picasaweb.google.com/stuartcovington/Plasticville BOSTON METRO HI-RAILERS
BMHR is hosting an open house to show its very impressive O gauge
lay-out. The layout has been greatly expanded in the last
year and is well worth the trip. The club is located at 99
Essex Street in Melrose, MA and will be open on April 5th from 10:00 to
4:00. Admission is $2, while those ten and under will be
admitted without charge. For info, call or e- mail:

Advertising, such as auction announcements, show flyers, offers to buy
or sell train collections and so on can appear in NETCA
News. The only rules are that the advertiser has to be a
TCA member and the ad has to be related to trains. Rates:

in New England, so is an extremely cost-effective way to advertise to
interested people. Send ads to the editor.BE SELFISH – SUPPORT NETCA
If you do something to help the division, such as rent a dealer table,
you will also be helping yourself. If you rent dealer
tables at two of the first three meets in 2008, you will get the same
number of tables rent-free at the December meet; maximum number of free
tables in December is two per dealer. If you have any
questions about this program, contact the secretary at 781-944-0038.COMING ATTRACATIONS

The raffle’s grand prize, a pair of Lionel’s new Standard O
GP-7s in New York Central livery, was won by Robert Sylvia.
Although Bob won the prize, he still went home empty-handed because the
engines have not yet been delivered by Lionel. Be patient,
Bob! Jeff Gross, happy winner of the Atlas SF caboose, did
get to take his prize home. Paul Hagist made his freight
consist one car longer, as he was awarded the REA
Express boxcar. Marty Visnick really cleaned up, as he won
the Lionel lubrication and maintenance kit. George Selados
started looking for some passenger cars after he won the Lionel station
platform. Because he won the Lionel tractor trailer, John
McNamara can deliver all of the freight his trains have been bringing
to the station. John Hanson began to polish his glasses
after learning that he had won the book, Lionel Trains – Standard
of the World. Not to be outdone, Bill Pillsbury also took
home a book, a copy of the new Greenberg price guide. Dave
Johnson won a wood carving, which is train-related…..I
hope. Thanks to all who participated!

Nothing is guaranteed, but if you want a chance to get into the winners
circle at the upcoming raffle, fill out some tickets and send them to
Ben Merry. Here’s a list of the prizes: the grand
prize is grand indeed, for it is the Streamlined Empire State Express
4-6-4 Hudson, made by MTH in 1995. The diecast loco and
tender are new in the box. The next prize is Lionel’s
reissue of the #356 operating station, featuring two men who tirelessly
trundle baggage carts around the platform. Lionel’s
operating banjo signal is another prize, as are station platforms. You do not have to be present to win the grand prize, but all other prizes will be awarded to those in attendance at the time of the drawing. Tickets will be available at the meet up till the time of the drawing, 12:00. Also, use the enclosed sheet to send completed tickets, with a check made out to NETCA, to Ben and Terry Merry at the address on the ticket sheet. HOW TO ENTER THE DIVISION MEET
Buying and selling before the official start of our meets has long been
a contentious issue. Policing the hall to prevent such
trading is impossible. To give everyone, table holder and customer
alike, an equal opportunity to look for items, NETCA directors voted to
allow all pre-registered mem bers to enter the meet as soon as they
arrive. Badges must be picked up first; the badges will be
in the trading hall next to the floor plan. At 9:00 the
pre-registered badges remaining will be taken to the registration desk.
Those who choose not to register early will have to purchase their badges at the registration desk before entering the meet. With this procedural change, members will have the ability to determine when they can enter the meet. LOST AND FOUND
At the conclusion of the December 9th meet, Doug Manson found the end
of a Lionel MPC box for the Southern combination car, #6-9531. If
you dropped this item, come to the March 9th meet and ask for Doug, who
will return it to you. Thanks Doug!MYSTIC VALLEY RAILWAY SOCIETY
